Sir Roden Cutler VC Splash 'n' Dash
Manly, 8th March 2009
All proceeds to Sir Roden Cutler Charities and Manly Life Saving Club
On Sunday, 8th March, 2009, Sir Roden Cutler Charities and Manly Life Saving Club will host the inaugural 'Sir Roden Cutler VC Splash & Dash' - a biathlon taking in some of Sydney's best ocean views followed by the Manly Wharf Hotel Ocean Swim. This will become an annual event, celebrating a great Australian, Sir Roden Cutler, Australia's service men and women and the nation's carers and those they care for.
The 'Sir Roden Cutler VC Splash & Dash' recognises Sir Roden's affinity with Manly (he was born and raised there) and his love of the surf but most importantly it raises money for the CarerCar project.
The race gives the services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Reserve Army, Fire Brigade, Rural Fire Services, Police, SES, Nurses, Life Savers), corporate teams and individuals the opportunity to win the premier award, the 'Sir Roden Cutler VC Splash & Dash Prize', for the team and individual that finishes the biathlon in the fastest time.
The event kicks off at 7.30am and consists of a three kilometre run and a one kilometre ocean swim. The winning team will be presented with a perpetual trophy, a one eighth scale model of the statue of (then) Lt Roden Cutler located at Manly Village Public School in Manly.
The day ends with the Manly Wharf Hotel Ocean Swim - a 1km and a 2km swim.
All race details including online entry can be found at www.manlylsc.com.au
Profits will be used by Sir Roden Cutler Charities to purchase a CarerCar for the Manly community and surrounding suburbs. The car, a specially designed Toyota Porte is fitted with an electronic wheelchair to enable carers and those they care for an opportunity for mobility and outings currently beyond them.

Roden Cutler Wheelchair Roll 2008
This year, the Wheelchair Roll has gone national. The 'Roll' not only raises awareness in the community about the challenges faced by people who are disabled, infirm or elderly but over the last two years has raised money for those doing it tough in the bush. This year, the theme for the Wheelchair Roll is 'Care for a Carer'; there are over 2.6 million carers in Australia who not only make tremendous sacrifices and undertake invaluable work but also save millions in tax payer's money. Via the 2008 Wheelchair Roll, the Sir Roden Cutler Charity is not only raising funds for the carers but is also raising the profile of these unsung heroes of our community.
